Set a default page in the Works word processor. Default page means the
new blank page which automatically loads with your preferred margins
and font. The method is as follows: With a blank new page on the screen in the Works word processor, click File (top grey menu). Then click Page setup. Change the margins to your preferred size. Click OK. Now click the down-arrows on the toolbar to select your preferred font and font size, eg, Times New Roman and size 12. Click File-->Save As... In the Save As... dialog box, click the little down arrow at the right of the box labelled Save as type: Now select Works Template.wpt Then in the main panel of the Save As dialog box you will see a file called Normal.wpt Click it, and then click the Save button. Close down the Works word processor then open it again. When the new blank page appears, type a sentence or two. You will see that your preferred margins and font are now set as the default.

Converting Word documents to Works documents. When you try to open a folder in Works you may not see any files (or some may appear to be missing). This is because the Open command in Works is set to look for files ending in .wps The Word files end in .doc as a result Works can’t see them until you set Works to show the .doc files. This is how you do it: In the Works word processor, click the FileàOpen on the top menu bar. Below the window you will see a field containing the type of file to open. It will say that it is looking for .wps files. Click the little down arrow at the side of this field and select Word 97–2002 files (.doc) Now you will be able to see the .doc files. Click on the file you want to open and open it. Then Save As... and save it as a .wps file. Gradually do this to all your .doc files so that, eventually you have no more files needing to be converted. |
